The number of events in Tenerife grows each month this monthly update has reached 4 pages – there is something to suit all tastes so just keep moving forward at the end of each page to find your favourite activity.
This month the main attraction is Semana Santa (Easter). Probably the most spectacular procession takes place just outside of the main southern resorts in Adeje town. The Passion of Christ on 22nd Viernes Santos (Good Friday) starts at 12.00 from Calle Grande y Plaza Cruz del Llano. For those visiting the north of the island it is worth the trek to La Laguna for the ‘Magna’ processions at 17.00 when brotherhoods looking like something from the KKK carry full size crucifixes and silently parade through the streets.
1st to 3rd – Forever King of Pop Pabellón Santiago Martín de Tenerife (sports arena) a musical that pays tribute to Michael Jackson. Music pyrotechnics, special effects, lights, dancers and double-imitators that allow us to believe for a moment that Michael is still alive. 1st – The Comedy Club – Karting Las Américas – This month headlines with Jeremy O’Donnell – “Cutting edge funny”. Sharing the stage will be Nick Helm who is putting his past firmly behind him; Anthony J Brown whose humour is “blacker than a raven” and Liam Spears whose schoolboy humour will have you giggling like, err a schoolboy. 1st Paul Alborán in Concert – Theobald Power Auditorium, La Orotava. The magic of Paul Alborán is spreading throughout the Spanish music scene, reaching number 1 in the Spanish charts and iTunes. Starts 21:00 Tickets €15 HERE
1st – 2nd IX Adeje Book Fair in homage to Hans Christian Andersen, Culture Centre Adeje Town.
1st to 3rd – International Beach Volleyball. High up in the hills of La Caleta, next to Golf Costa Adeje, T3 is a multipurpose sports centre with “beaches” where the Spanish teams train. You can watch for FREE teams from Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, Poland and Russia compete for a trophy.
2nd – Ojos de Brujo Concert – Plaza Trasera by Santa Cruz Auditorium Popular Barcelona group that combine hip hop with flamenco. Starts at 10 pm, Tickets €20 from HERE VIDEO
2nd – Candelaria Trail 2011 A 27-kilometer race across the local network of trails, linking the main towns of the area, starting in the Plaza de Barranco Hondo
2nd Come and dream with Ismael Serrano - Theobald Power Auditorium, La Orotava. Starts 21.00 Tickets €20 HERE
3rd – Las Galletas Half Marathon – It’s an early start at 9 00am for the runners. The course goes around the streets of Las Galletas and there are trophies and prize money in 20 categories. It’s a big social event that shows off the charms of this lovely fishing village and the competitors welcome all the support the many spectators give them, but please don’t stand half way around the course with a pie and a pint as it puts them off.
7th – 11th Exposaldo – Recinto Ferial, Santa Cruz. Get ready to bargain hunt. There really is something for everyone here from cars to electrical, household goods, clothes, toys and all points in between. Bargain prices throughout. The event is open from 10 am to 8 pm each day. Normally a nominal charge to get in of around €3. INFO
8 – 10 When You’re Strange, – TEA – Tenerife Espacio de Las Artes Santa Cruz TEA is not just a conventional art gallery; it also has a small comfortable cinema showing foreign language and special interest films. The Doors were a classic American rock band of the early 1970’s and When You’re Strange was not only one of their many hit songs but is also the title of this award winning 2009 documentary. This film is shown each day at 7 pm and 9.30 pm, entry 4 euros, in the original English with Spañish sub titles and featuring great songs like Break On Through, Come On Baby Light My Fire, and L.A Woman.
8th – 24th Festival of Ancient and Baroque Music – Castillo San Felipe. Puerto de la Cruz www.reyesbartlet.com
9th – Infinity Xtreme III Canary – Puerto de la Cruz. Canary Infinity Xtreme is a sporting event, unique in the archipelago and suitable only for the strongest. It consists of a journey of ten miles and more than fifteen obstacles. A race on road and sand, a swim in the harbour and a cross-country trip through the San Felipe barranco. The run up to the weekend festival will also see activities such as BMX, motocross, climbing and children’s activities VIDEO
9th The Grand National – Clubhouse Los Gigantes – live sporting events will be shown on the big screen, with a buffet and Champagne reception. This is a ticket event which are available from the bar at €7.50 per head or from Tenerife Sunshines office opposite the Plaza in Los Gigantes. The day starts at 12pm ready for the first race of the day live from Aintree.
