AJ’s Bar None – Great entertainment in Tenerife

I can be a bit snobby about the places I go to drink, so anyone who knows me would probably be surprised to see me heading down the broken stairs and past the tacky souvenir shops under the old Torviscas Market.  However, I have now done this on numerous occasions, not because I have had a personality change, but because there is one bar everyone should visit at least once either while in Tenerife on holiday or if you live here, like me, go once, and you will possibly return again and again.

AJ´s Bar None is run by the owners Andy and Maggie, who are the consummate professionals when it comes to customer care.  From the moment you step on to their premises you will get a warm welcome.  Once inside the bar you are transported miles away from the shabby surrounding area and are in a modern, tasteful, spotlessly clean (including the loos – I have a thing about this) and relaxed entertainment bar that can compete with any in the more costly areas.  Unlike us locals, some holidaymakers find it can get hot in the summer months so they are catered for with air-conditioning. There is no crush at the bar for their well priced and named brand drinks as they have waitress service.

AJ’s opens around 8.30 until 2.00am  Andy is a first-rate singer and every act he hires has to meet his exceptionally high standards, this guy has walked the walk for many years so knows what he is on about.  Top rate entertainers come back time and time again to perform at AJ’s.  People like Nik Page who has worked with artists such as Billy Connolly, Peter Kay, and Dr Hook, always drops by to give a show when he is on the island and not performing on one of the prestigious cruises he works around The Caribbean, New York, or Hawaii.  Jesse Garon is a regular with his Cash and King show and with a bit of luck when he gets back from the UK he will entertain us at the monthly Rock n Roll Nites.

Of course, Andy also does his Robbie Williams show, and Pete Conway, Williams’ dad has joined him on stage in the bar. In my opinion this gives an indication of the calibre of the guy.

I have heard it rumoured that joining this prominent group of entertainers is Tenerife’s own Traveller Blues Band.  A very different evening will be had at AJs should they perform, but that is the beauty of this place, you won’t be bored with the same performances, there is always something different and exciting on offer, so  make a point of searching out AJ´s Bar None you won´t be disappointed.

One Response to AJ’s Bar None – Great entertainment in Tenerife

  1. I couldn’t agree more about Andy and Maggie being the ultimate professionals. They treat their customers the way customers should be treated.

Knowing that the Red Queen is not a lover of karaoke, I’d like to add to what she has to say above to advise those who are into karaoke that, on the nights when there is no specific entertainment and also once the entertainers are finished, this is a fantastic little karaoke bar. Andy has one of the best sound systems around and he treats his singers with a great deal of respect, especially if you can hold a note.

There is another bar, which is very popular with karaoke lovers, round the corner and up the top (named after the glow from a night time planet). I cannot for the life of me understand why people find this place so attractive as the compere should be named Mr Grumpy – no welcome, no praise, no thanks, boring voice, zilch. I’d urge anybody who’s out for a fun karaoke night or even just for a quick drink to take the trouble to find AJs bar in preference to this depressing watering hole.
