Lo Nuestro – Buzanada – Tenerife

It is a couple of years since we first visited Lo Nuestro a typical Canarian restaurant specialising in meat and fish dishes up a tiny unmade path off the main street in Buzanada.

Like the last time we went, it was a chilly winter night and we moved around the room changing tables a couple of times to make sure we were away from the door, and any possible draughts.  Fortunately we were quite early so there was some room however before the night was over the restaurant was full.   You don´t see many tourists here so all the chatter was Spanish and we hoped we could make ourselves understood.

It was nice to see the same old waiter who took our order the last time we visited with Carole and Eric.  It was then that he made out we had ignored him when he was in Chayofa.  In fact, while we were having a cigarette at the bar he found out where we lived and thought he would have a joke with us girls.  He certainly did, I remember we felt quite embarrassed until he doubled over laughing.  This time I was ready for him and we chatted happily with our poor Spanish and his little English.

The menu when it arrived had not changed; fortunately, there is a section in English.  A dish of deep fried squid was brought to our table complements of the house, which we picked at while we decided what to eat.

OH chose the Fried Goats Cheese for starters and I opted for the Morcilla Dulce sweet black pudding with fruit and almonds.  If you want bread and mojos like many restaurants this is charged as extra.

All meals come with a selection of vegetables, Canarian potatoes and chips. Our choice for the night was a large pork chop; and the chicken lo-nuestro, which is breast of chicken in a pineapple sauce, delicious. The portions are large, I brought one chicken breast home, and OH brought some pork back so the dogs who once they knew they had a treat in store did not mind being left at home.

For dessert, OH had the Bienmesabe a popular pudding, which means, “It tastes good to me” in Spanish.  It is made of ground almonds, sugar, cinnamon and lemon zest. To wash it all down two waters and two cafe con leche.  The bill arrived along with two complimentary Ron Miels and was under €30.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Lo Nuestro, like it’s location, up a dirt track, it is basic but spotlessly clean and the sort of typical Canarian eatery that many residents and discerning tourists love to seek out.

Have you got any directions to here please

    • Don’t know where you are coming from John, so whilst it may be a longer route it is probably the easiest.

From the TF1 take the Guaza/Buzanada turn off (think it is Jnt 26) head up the TF66 to Buzanada pass the BP garage and continue on to the roundabout. Take 3rd exit signposted Cabo Blanco. After a short distance pass the Gym then the Excalibur restaurant. Suggest you park opposite. There is a no entry street – Calle Isla Margarita, where there is an entrance to the restaurant halfway up or you can take the car up the next turning which is a dirt-track and park directly outside Lo Nuestro.
