Pizzeria Versilia – Buzanada, Tenerife

I was having a little moan the other day about how it can be expensive to eat in the resorts and while the quality in a number of establishments is good, sadly it cannot be said for all.  We regularly eat out and I rarely find the same problem with restaurants that are a few miles inland.  Some may be more expensive than others, but generally they are cheaper than the resorts, indeed some can be so cheap I often wonder how it is possible to serve such good quality food at the price.

Thursday night was a typical example; there is a little Italian restaurant in a side street, Calle Luciano Bello, close to the church in Buzanada, in the south of Tenerife, the Pizzeria Versilia.

The place is not huge but is bright and cheery like the staff, an Italian family who own and run it, who are there to welcome you with a warm smile.  The owner of the pizzeria is an art lover and lets local photographers and artists use the restaurant walls to exhibit their work. We ate early so it was quiet but even by the time we were due to leave and the restaurant had filled up the staff had time to greet the diners with a warm welcome and a hug for those they knew personally.

We were quite hungry so shared a green salad and some Bruschetta which if it had been for just one person would have been far too much.

I’m not a great lover of pizza and would ordinarily not choose it but it did look good. This was just a simple Margarita with a crispy base that had deep fluffy edges, lashings of cheese and fresh tomatoes and it was delicious. OH went for the chicken breast served with a sage and mushroom sauce this came with garlic potatoes – that was also scrumptious.  Of course, you have to  try your partner’s meal so you know if you want to order that next time.  The portions were good, we took some home and the dogs also thought the food, well at least the chicken was delicious they didn´t even look at the potatoes or the pizza. Obviously not starving and spoilt for choice LOL.

A glass of red wine, a soft drink,  a bottle of water and coffee was just €27, cheap by anyones standards and the quality of the food was first class.

For anyone who loves true Italian food this place is a must.  Eat early and you will find a table, but if you want to eat around 9.00 it is recommended you make a reservation.  Open every day except Tuesdays.
