I love people’s faces and although I am not a great photographer could not resist snapping the Indian people. Of course they loved it as it appears to be an Indian pastime seeing if you can get a European to take your photograph.
It helps if you can give something in the way of payment for being allowed to snap away. I took the toiletries from the hotels and gave them to the women. The young ones were thrilled to have shampoo, conditioner and luxury soaps, while the old ladies liked the moisturiser. It was obvious from their skin that this was something they didn’t use regularly.
The men were happy with a boiled sweet or a cigarette and one or two even did a swap for a bidi (pronounced bee-dees).
