Many holidaymakers come to Tenerife expecting to snap up bargains in electronic goods, perfumes and clothes. It seems those days are long gone and the only place you can buy cheap is in one of the outdoor markets but genuine bargains they are not!
Shopping, as it is know in the UK is not big here in the southern resorts. If we want the choice that is available in almost every town in the UK it means a journey to Santa Cruz. CC Meridiano takes some beating but the car park is horrendous, dark, full of pillars and always crowded and after the palaver of parking there is still only two floors of shops. My favourite is CC La Laguna where they have a C&A, Benetton, H&M and a Cortefiel along with several other and the prices are good. Across the road you also have an Ikea and a LeRoy Merlin which keeps OH happy. We normally go at least once a month to get a fix of retail therapy. I recently took a girlfriend who hadn´t been before and I think this could turn into a regular occurrence
We do have Commercial Centres in Las Americas where you can find a dazzling selection of international stores in a distinctive environment of dramatic architecture but you need deep pockets to shop there. Apart from shopping in CC Gran Sur which is just off the motorway slip road at Fañabe and only has 2 floors so not a great deal of choice, I tend to wait for the sales when genuine bargains are available at over 70% of the normal price. However as the sales only come around twice a year, like the majority of locals, I spend a couple of relaxing hours enjoying the cafe culture, the pretty year round fairy lights and the beautiful window displays, while counting down the days to the sales.
