Stuart, the son of a friend came to live in Tenerife a few weeks ago. He had been offered the position of chef at the new Lazy Daze bar/restaurant in Las Americas (next to the Noelia Sur Hotel). Our friends (Stu’s parents) Kevin and Jan have known the owners Mick, Lorraine and their daughter Danni for several years and had spent many happy hours in the ‘old’ Parque de la Paz, Lazy Daze.
The new bar is reflective of a typical British drinking establishment with a complete selection of alcoholic beverages and quality inexpensive food. As with the old bar, they continue to offer entertainment and the ubiquitous karaoke – god forbid but so many people love it. When we were there, Rod Stewart was being advertised.
I did my usual and checked the loos and kitchen – I know the kitchen has just been retiled but the toilets were immaculate and spotlessly clean too so it was all systems go.
We chose our starters Reg had the Garlic bread (he kept a slice back to munch on just in case the main wasn’t up to scratch), Jim had the king prawns and I ordered the homemade hummus. They were all very good; I could have done with a touch more garlic in my hummus but appreciate that some may have found that over-powering. In fairness, it was a good balance to suit all palates.
We all ordered steaks, the fillet and the sirloin, which came with grilled fresh tomatoes and a large mushroom; these were accompanied by either potatoes or chips. We chose a large bowl of chips and they were hot, crispy on the outside and fluffy inside just the way chips should be. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and there was no need for the slice of garlic bread, as Reg said that steak really is PERFECT.
Stuart left The Brasserie Fish and Grill restaurant in Brighton Marina where he was head chef in order to risk a new future for his young family. He specialises in fish dishes, which come highly recommended but his steaks weren´t too shabby either. The service was very good, Danni was an attentive host, making sure we had everything we needed – she even turned the music down for us so we could chat.
I hope that things work out for Stu and the bar but going by what we were offered last night there should be no problems they seem to have a winning formula.
