I had spent a fair few hours on Friday in Los Cristianos so by the time OH and the girls came to meet me it was gone 7.00pm and I certainly didn´t feel like going home to start to cook. We walked down the road from the Reveron Plaza Hotel towards the underground car park when I said come on I’ll treat you to a cheapo meal.
I had read on Tripadviser about the Perla Negra and had actually answered the post saying I knew exactly where it was because it was close to our favourite coffee shop Mestizo where we stop most evenings. It has changed hands several times over the past couple of years, so despite being in a good location, close to the promenade and diagonal to the playground if you have little ones who need to be kept entertained, something was stopping the owners from making a living and staying put.
As we walked up we saw the advertising boards offering cheap three course meals for under €10. I wasn´t that hungry and I spied a chalk-board advertising the daily special at just €4.75. That would do.
The PR guy was pleasant and showed us to the terrace which was simple clean and the chairs were comfortable.
The staff were prompt with the menu which was extensive, and our drinks order. While they had very little English, with our Spanglish we ordered the special which was spicy chicken, Canarian potatoes with mojo sauce served with salad. While we waited they gave us complementary tapas. Not to my taste but OH enjoyed them.
When our meal arrived it was delicious, 4 decent sized pieces of chicken in a lovely coating. The salad was fresh and the sauces hit the spot. I particularly liked the fact that because we had the dogs with us they brought us a bowl of water and when we had dropped all our chicken bones onto the side plate they came with another dog bowl in case we let the dogs have our left-overs. As it turned out we don´t give the dogs bones and they thought it was strange as obviously many people feed their pets whatever they don´t eat themselves.
With our two drinks at €1.50 each the bill came to just €12.50 and was excellent quality and value for money. I would have no hesitation in recommending this as a nice tourist restaurant for a simple meal. I hope the new owners have broken whatever curse has caused the previous people to leave because this was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.
