Panaria – Los Cristianos

I had arrived early for a bit of pampering with Tif at Spa Mantra and knowing she is usually busy decided to wait in the new bakery/coffee shop, Panaria which is opposite her premises in Los Cristianos.

Since it opened at the beginning of the year, I have spoilt myself on a few occasions by buying their cheese loaf, their beer bread or a selection of cakes but this was my first venture at trying their coffee. Like their breads and cakes it was delicious.

Panaria Panaria

Panaria is a franchise with three branches in the north of the island; two in Santa Cruz and one in La Laguna and now for those of us who are close to the resort of Los Cristianos we can be spoilt by the freshly baked breads and cakes that are made and delivered daily from down the road in Las Chafiras.

Providing you get to Panaria early, their counter is full to bursting with special and delicious indulgences all clearly labelled in Spanish and English.

But be sure to stop by early in the day as this is a popular spot and will sell out of many items by the time lunch rolls around.  There will often be a line wrapping out the door and around the corner as tourists and local bread and cake fanatics queue up to buy the quite extravagantly priced delicacies. Quality ingredients (all products are 100% natural)  and loving preparation come at a price and a small bread is €2.50 but there is no comparison between that and 3 baguettes that come from Mercadona at €1.20.

If you decide to have a snack and a drink there is a wide choice of coffees, teas and juices that you can enjoy while reading the daily newspapers or using the free wifi in either the inside seating area or at the curb side tables where the waitresses are happy to help you decide what to order.

There are other bakeries and bread shops competing with Panaria in Los Cristianos but in my opinion they are in a completely different division and simply don’t compare. Not surprisingly, I am impressed – delicious baking is not as easy as it seems, but Panaria definitely delivers.
