5 things you must do in Tenerife

Tenerife is full of wonderful things to experience and numerous Tenerife blogs will give suggestions as to what is available.  Although I am now getting on a bit, during the years I have lived on the island I have sampled many attractions and experienced some magical moments. Although not able to do all of these now, I would encourage anyone to give them a try at least once while you can, as the experience is unforgettable.

1 See whales and dolphins in the wild.

You are almost 100% guaranteed to see whales and dolphins in the ocean off the south of the island. The whales are for the most part pilots but in April this year, we had 12 Orcas off the coast of Puerto Colon who stayed within our waters for several days.

2 Swim with turtles.

Staying in the water, there are a family of turtles in El Puertito and they always make divers welcome to their underwater world. You can also pay a visit to their relatives in Alcala, further down the coast.

3 Barranco del Infierno

It is many years since I walked the Barranco del Infierno, it has been closed for eight years, and whilst some folk will ignore the closure, others like me do as we are told! Now this famous route is open again but with only a limited number of people each day allowed to visit, you may want to make an early morning start so as not to be disappointed or by following the above link you can visit my other Tenerife blog for details of where to pre-book tickets.

4 Peak over the Cliffs at Los Gigantes

It is now easier than ever to enjoy the dizzying views since the council has completed the refurbishment of the viewpoint from the cliffs of Los Gigantes. This has improved the image of one of the most emblematic viewpoints on the Island as well as making access easier for the disabled by eliminating the steps.

5 Watch the sunset in the National Park

On a clear day, you can see the islands of La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma as the sun sets over Teide an unforgettable experience that should not be missed.
