That’s the title of the Miranda Lambert album, but what is Sunday like here in the south of Tenerife?
When our weekly quiz was taken over by karaoke, we looked around for somewhere else and ended up going to the Waterfall in Golf del Sur. The bar, which is almost a secret (I would never have found it unless someone had taken me), is in a nice setting by a pool. The staff are friendly and the food as we found out was good. We enjoyed their Wednesday quiz and noticed that on Sunday they were featuring a brand new show to the island, ‘The Memphis Belles’.
Said Belles are the combined talents of Vanessa Vee and Jacqui Peters. Our friends who have lived here for around 15 years had never seen Vanessa perform but Jim and I know what a fantastic show she can put on. On the other hand, they were raving over Jacqui who we had never seen, so to put things right we all met up at the Waterfall yesterday afternoon.
Vanessa started with her 50s / 60s show and everyone was shouting out female singers of the era and we all enjoyed singing along to everyone from Connie Francis, Petula Clark and a bit of Motown. Our friend comment, “she’s a bit of alright! I could see her again”.
Then on came Jacqui, I was dumbfounded, while she had a look of Shirley Bassey, once she opened her mouth, Dame Shirl could have been on that stage. Amazing. So both V and Jacqui gained new sets of fans while we were sitting in the Sunday sun.
Finally, the ladies came together as the Memphis Belles. The first thing they did was apologise in case anything went wrong. The show is not due to be rolled out to the public until September/October when they think it will suit an audience of ‘swallows’. However, word had got out and bars were asking to book the new show. All I can say is if that is the show with just a couple of rehearsals, it was perfect, great harmonies, lots of fun and a bit of audience participation. In a word BRILLIANT and the swallows are in for a real treat.
So ….. Just another Sunday in the South or should that be their closing number ‘We’ll Meet Again’
