Things to do in Tenerife in August 2017

What to Expect

The weather in August is identical to July, except perhaps hotter. A month when the island is buzzing not only with families from across Europe, due to school holidays but also with Spanish mainlanders who arrive in their droves. Daytime shade temperatures range from 28-34C here in the south and 26-31C in the north.


Tenerife’s Virgen del Carmen Los Cristianos’ celebration is particularly popular in the south: this year’s is 30 August-4 September and as always it will see a flotilla of boats leave the harbour carrying the Virgen’s statue.

Summer Movies On this occasion, a series of film screenings are presented, which will take place outdoors, in the different coastal centers of Adeje with the intention of entertaining and bringing cultural activity closer to the whole family.

‘Los Lavaderos’ will host a cycle of thirteen acoustic concerts called ‘Lavaderos Live Music’, every Thursday in August, starting at 8:00 p.m. (When the Crystal Acoustic Trio will take part (Thursday 3); Etel Santos and Paukelele Duet (Thursday 10); José Arbelo and Regina Zerenéz Duet (Thursday 17); Touché and Elena Delgado & Óscar Tiraida (Thursday 24) and Andi Curbelo and Beatriz Martín Trio (Thursday 31). Arona Summer Festival – Steve Aoki is one of the big names in electronic music this summer in Tenerife. This iconic dj will be on stage with the dance music that this year will be held for the first time (Where: Amarilla Golf de San Miguel de Abona. When 5th August)

XI Open Sea Festival 2017 of Arona with a great performance by Carlos Vives. The international Colombian artist will fill the stage with Latin rhythms (When August 5th Where Municipal Football Field Annex Antonio Domínguez, Los Cristianos)

Acuatlon – 5km + 1,0km + 2,5km (When 5th August, Where Playa San Juan)

Phe Festival celebrates its second edition with a promise to bring together even more music, cinema, and gastronomy in the same space. This year Phe presents two concerts, from well-known international, national and local artists including Miss Caffeina, Yall, Triangle of Bizarre Love, Eme DJ, Belöp, Papaya, Los Vinagres and The Good Company joins WAS, Siloé and The Taxman (When: 11th and 12th August, Where: Esplanade / Harbour Puerto de la Cruz)

As part of the festival the Phe Market will be a new addition. The open-air fair, next to the sea during the day, focuses on fashion, design and technology. There will also be a day of reflection and shared knowledge, a meeting of cinema, concerts, activities and city tours, which complete the program to reinforce what the north of Tenerife has to offer.(See above)

Children of the 80sSnap  It’s  impossible not to have a great night when The Power”, a dance song which gave Snap! global success will be playing. (When: 12th August Where: Hard Rock Hotel Playa Paraiso)

Annual Los Abrigos Beer Festival (Sol y Cañas) It’s now a regular, and very successful event the festival will include prizes for the best costumes (When: 12th August from 10am until 2am 13th August Where: Los Abrigos)

Sunblast Festival is the biggest electronic music festival in the Canary Islands. Sunblast will feature four different stages on which over 25 international DJs will be playing electro and dance music from 2.30pm until midnight. The line-up for this year include Barely Alive, Mija, Kayper, Dirtyphonics and Edu Imbernon. Tickets from (When: 12th August Where: Golf Costa Adeje)

Viva San Roquito … and the romeria! In the middle of August you can enjoy this spectacular procession in one of the most charming towns of Tenerife. (When: August 16 Where: Garachico)

The Jump Canarias Tour – The best BMX acrobatic riders, motocross and show car will put the finishing touches to the Canarian tour of this extreme sport show. (When 26 of August Where Estadio Iván Ramallo Los Realejos)

Craft Fairs – The fairs, both small and large, sell unusual products from really creative and talented individuals, all of whom are officially recognised with a carné de artesano. The full list of dates is HERE.
